Ethiopian opal is a spectacular opal that displays wonderful fire patterns and excellent play of colors. It is NATURAL in origin (not simulated!). In many cultures around the world, Ethiopian opal is believed to have healing properties that improve eyesight. This colorful gemstone was discovered in the Wollo province of Ethiopia. That’s the reason why it is also called the ‘Welo’ opal.
Before the discovery of this gemstone, several other opals were also discovered from Ethiopia but they did not get as much popularity as the Ethiopian opal. During the middle ages, the opals were believed to bring good luck also.
